A first: Punjab Congress holds interviews for block chiefs

In a first-of-its-kind exercise, the Punjab Congress is interviewing workers for 235 posts of block president across the state. So far, 118 block presidents have been appointed and the remaining 116 posts will be filled in the coming days.

“This is in withdrawal from the previous practice of appointing the block presidents. This helps in screening the block presidents, who understand the working and philosophy of the party,” said Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. The appointments are coming three months after Raja Warring was appointed the PCC chief.

He said the appointments of district presidents and other office-bearers of the PCC would be done in the next one week.

Learning from past experiences, the PCC will not have a ‘top-heavy” body. An attempt was being made to trim down the structure and make it more effective, said party leaders.
