For the first time since the construction of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh, a special session of the Assembly will be held outside the building, at Anandpur Sahib.

The session, scheduled for Monday at Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial Park, marks the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The state government has made extensive preparations for the event, including the installation of a large waterproof tent.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has officially designated the park as the Assembly venue for the duration of the session. Most MLAs, especially from the ruling AAP, have already arrived in Anandpur Sahib. The newly elected AAP MLA from Tarn Taran will attend his first session at the venue.

While the session focuses on paying tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur and honouring his legacy, questions are being raised whether the government will concede to demands from local leaders and residents to declare Anandpur Sahib a separate district or financial division. However, official sources deny that there are any such plans.

During the session, the House will recognise the Punjab Government’s efforts to organise the commemorative events. The Assembly will pass a resolution to promote the values of secularism, universal brotherhood, and human rights, in keeping with the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
