The vacancy in the Upper House was created due to the resignation by Sanjeev Arora, who contested and won the Ludhiana (West) poll in June this year.

Gupta was accompanied by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, AAP state chief Aman Arora, Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora and Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer.

He becomes the fourth candidate to have filed the nomination papers for the poll scheduled to be held on October 24.
