AAP falls short of seven seats in 95-member Ludhiana MC

The district recorded an overall polling of 47.71% in the civic body elections today.

In Ludhiana city, AAP secured the maximum 41 seats while it needed 48 to reach the majority mark in the 95-member Municipal Corporation House. The Congress won 30 seats, BJP 19 and SAD two. Three Independent candidates also logged victory.

In elections to the Maachiwara Municipal Council, the ruling AAP won in 10 of the total 15 wards. The Congress and SAD bagged two seats each while the other seat went to the Independent candidate.

In the Mullanpur Dakha Municipal Council, the Congress won seven of the 13 seats. AAP and Independent candidates bagged three each. In the 15-member Sanhewal Municipal Council, AAP won eight seats, the Congress six and SAD one.

Byelection to one ward each in the Khanna and Samrala municipal councils were also held today. In Samrala, SAD candidate registered a win while the result of Khanna was not declared till the filing of this report due to an alleged incident of damage to one of the four EVMs.

In Nagar Panchayat, Malaud, out of the total 11 wards, AAP won seven. The Congress and Independent candidates won two seats each.
