AAP MLA Giaspura seeks probe into Pilibhit encounter
Expressing apprehension that the Pilibhit encounter of three Sikh youths in Uttar Pradesh last month might have been “staged”, Aam Aadmi Party legislator Manwinder Singh Giaspura has sought a high-level probe into the incident.
On December 23, a joint team of the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Police had killed three suspected terrorists, who were allegedly involved in a grenade attack on a police post in Gurdaspur.
In a letter to Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on December 26, the Payal MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) urged him to take up the matter with the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government.
He also objected to the youths — Gurwinder Singh, Varinder Singh and Jaspreet Singh — killed in the encounter being labelled as Khalistani terrorists.
“Being the Speaker, you are the custodian of the House. If the youths of Punjab are killed in another state, in fake encounters, we must raise our voice. I urge you to write to the Uttar Pradesh government for conducting a high-level inquiry into this incident, and if anyone is found guilty, he should be punished,” he said.
Earlier, various human rights organisations sought immediate intervention of the Supreme Court in the alleged fake encounter.
They urged the Chief Justice of India to take suo motu action in the case.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) too had demanded a judicial probe into the matter while raising questions over the police encounter.
