The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) achieved a resounding victory in the Nagar Panchayat elections for Mahilpur, winning 10 out of 13 seats, with a voter turnout of 68.22 per cent. Congress secured one seat, while two independent candidates were elected.
Notably, the joint front of 11 independent candidates, who contested under the same election symbol, failed to win a single seat.
In the results, AAP’s Manpreet Kaur defeated Congress’s Mukesh Kumari by 226 votes in Ward-1, while Ashok Kumar triumphed over Congress’s Avtar Singh Tari by 112 votes in Ward-2. Congress’s Virinder Kaur won by 12 votes in Ward-3 against AAP’s Harbans Kaur.
In other key races, AAP’s Shashi Bangar, Dhirajpal, Lal Krishna Baldev Singh, Kuldeep Kaur and Davinder Singh Saini all secured victories in their respective wards. Independent candidates Surinder Kaur and Balwinder Marwaha won in Ward-11 and Ward-12, respectively. AAP’s Satvir Singh Sant Bains won in Ward-13 by a narrow margin of 12 votes against Sanyukt Morcha’s Amandeep Singh Bains.
