Abohar businessman resists loot bid, injured

Abohar, August 7

A businessman was hurt as he resisted an attempt by three bikers to rob him when he was returning home last night.

Des Raj Taneja, who runs a departmental store opposite a Police Patrolling Point outside Sadar Bazar here, said he, along with his son Sudhir, were passing through Sunder Nagari on a bike when three bikers forced them to stop and tried to snatch a cash bag. When they resisted, one of them attacked him and the miscreants fled when people arrived on the scene. Sudhir has been admitted to the government hospital. The police have commenced investigation.

In a similar incident two days back, two masked bikers had robbed a cloth merchant of Rs 1,500 by stopping his vehicle on the Panjkosi-Killianwali road, he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon and had to be taken to the government hospital here. The police said a case had been registered under Sections 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Some social organisations had recently met senior police officials and expressed concern over increase in such crimes.
