Abohar couple loses 250 gm gold while travelling in train
A couple from Abohar has been left devastated after thieves stole gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 20 lakh from their purse while traveling in the AC coach of the 22998 Sriganganagar-Kota superfast train on the night of January 11-12. The incident has left the couple deeply shocked, even after returning home.
Gagandeep Sethi, a resident of Suraj Nagari in Abohar, said that he, his wife Pooja, and his sister Poonam Ahuja boarded the train on January 11 to deliver Lohri gifts to his recently married younger sister, Noori Chandana, in Jaipur. Around 11 pm, his other sister Anu and nephew Vinayak also joined them in the same coach at Bikaner station.
While the rest of the group went to sleep, Sethi kept watch over a purse containing 25 tolas of gold jewellery until around 1 am. However, when he woke up at approximately 4 am, he discovered the purse was missing. An empty purse was later found near an unoccupied cabin. Sethi had carried the gold with him, fearing the risk of leaving it in his home.
The theft occurred near Makrana, and Sethi immediately informed the Government Railway Police (GRP), who registered a case under Section 305 of the Indian Penal Code. The stolen gold is valued at around Rs 20 lakh.
