Abohar, July 13
The construction of a four-lane highway from Abohar to Fazilka is underway, which will give an impetus to the development of border district Fazilka. The project will not only make travel to Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat easier but also prove to be a boon to the industry and trade in Fazilka.
Known as the GT Road in the pre-Partition days, National Highway-10 originates at Delhi and ends at Fazilka near the Indo-Pakistan border.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Senu Duggal inspected the ongoing work today and directed that materials used in the construction of the highway should be of high quality. The highway starts from Fazilka-Ferozepur Road near Lalowali village and will bypass the villages of Ghallu and Khui Khera. The total length of the stretch is 44.960 km, which is being constructed by Gawar Fazilka Highway Project Limited.
This project will reduce the distance between Fazilka and Delhi, making it easier to travel to Delhi. Additionally, the ring road around Abohar town will be completed, making it one of the major towns in the Malwa region.
The project includes the construction of 45 small and big bridges, flyovers, and railway overbridges (RoBs). A service road will also be built along with the project. The completion of the project will give a boost to trade and industry in the district.
The world-famous Basmati rice grown in Fazilka will reach the ports in less time and ‘kinnow’ grown in the district will also be transported to the markets in Delhi and southern states quickly. The project is progressing at a rapid pace. This project will not only benefit Fazilka but also tourists visiting the international border at Sadiki checkpost to watch the Retreat ceremony from neighbouring Haryana and Rajasthan. The project is being constructed with the latest technology.
MD of the construction company Parminder Singh and project manager Ravinder Singh said the project would ensure world-class standards. District Revenue Officer Sandeep Kumar was also present during the inspection.
