Abohar: Woman peddler nabbed

Abohar: A woman along with her 16-year-old nephew was nabbed with 100 grams of “chitta” near Sadhuwali village on Abohar-Sriganganagar road on Sunday. Sub- Inspector Ram Bilas said Priya, a resident of Chhajgiriya Mohalla, was heading back to Sriganganagar after purchasing the contraband from a peddler in Tahliwala Jattan. During interrogation, she revealed that she had paid Rs 1.5 lakh to the peddler for the drug. Her mother, Usha, has also been arrested said the police. OC

Two die by suicide

Abohar: The body of Santosh Rani, who had reportedly gone missing from Arya Nagar was found in a canal near Panniwala Mahla village. Her family said she was upset for the last few days. In another case, Pritam Singh was found hanging at his house in Jammu Basti. His father Bagga Singh said a woman named Sita was threatening to implicate him in a false case. The City-1 police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Sita. OC

Cancer-prone village shines

Abohar: Dreams of Dangarkhera residents were shattered after the Roko Cancer Foundation had identified 23 cancer patients, 12 of whom died later. Now, the village has come into the limelight as 30 youngsters have been selected as ETT teachers. An event titled “You are proud of Dangarkhera” was held at Basanti Mata Mandir to felicitate the youngsters who made their mark in various government jobs. OC

2 cyclists killed in accidents

Abohar: Anil Kumar of Dangarkhera village died after a car hit his bicycle while he was heading towards Burjmuhar village. Rajesh Goyal, a newspaper vendor, died after two cars hit his bicycle outside G-Block in Sriganganagar. The police have booked both car drivers under relevant sections of the IPC. OC

Chandigarh: Janata Dal (United) has appointed Dr Kittu Singh as the chief of the women’s wing. Dr Kittu will raise voice against hardships faced by women on designated forums.
