Harjinder Singh Dhami, who had resigned as SGPC president on February 17, today agreed to resume his duties after former president of SAD Sukhbir Singh Badal and party working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder met him here.

Dhami's resignation was rejected by the executive committee of the SGPC yesterday.

After holding the closed-door meeting with Sukhbir, Bhunder and others, Dhami said, "For a long time, SAD leadership, Singh Sahibans and SGPC members had been urging me to withdraw my resignation... Yesterday, my resignation was rejected by the SGPC executive committee."

"Today, SAD leaders, including Sukhbir Badal, Bhunder, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, and several SGPC members met me. Their 'command' will be followed, and I will resume my duties within three-four days."

Welcoming Dhami's decision, Sukhbir praised his commitment to the party and the Sikh community.

He said the Panth was coming under direct and indirect attacks due to external interference, and the community should unitedly counter such moves.

He said conspiracies were hatched to weaken the SGPC by first forming Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and then Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee.

Highlighting that Dhami deserved to be congratulated for his commitment to serve the Panth again, Sukhbir said the community and the SAD were proud of him.

Bhunder said Dhami had been associated with the party and the SGPC for a long time.

"He is a courageous, religious and honest person, who commands respect in the Panth," Bhunder said, adding that he had on behalf of the party appealed to Dhami to resume his 'sewa' because in this difficult time, the community needed leaders like him.
