AICTE bans new technical institutions for next two years

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has banned new technical institutions in the country for two years.

The information was shared by AICTE officials during a workshop organised for technical institutes in Delhi.

Dr Anshu Kataria, president, PUCA, said the workshop was organised to deliberate on the approval process handbook 2020-21. Representatives of around 500 technical institutions from across the country attended the workshop.

Besides banning new institutions for two years, other changes include closure of second or part-time shifts, making all courses full-time and regular, merger of existing technical institutions running under the same society and reduction of the duration of MCA course from three years to two.

D Katraia said the AICTE would not permit any institution to run both MBA and PGDM course simultaneously under the same institution from the coming session.

The Federation of Self-Financing urged the AICTE to permit unaccredited technical institutions to appoint faculty in the ratio 1:20 on the admitted intake due to reduction of 50 per cent admissions in the past years.
