Amritsar, February 12

In the wake of the call given by farmer organisations for tractor march to Delhi and road closures by the Haryana Government, the airfares on the Amritsar-Delhi route have skyrocketed in the last two days. There are three airlines, including Air India, Vistara and Indigo, which operate 10 direct flights between Amritsar and Delhi.

The airfare between Amritsar and Delhi is between Rs 3,200-3,500 on normal days. However, the passengers are now paying Rs 14,000 to 19,000 for one-way ticket. Besides, no seats are available in current booking.

Five-time hike

  • Airfare on ordinary days from Amritsar to Delhi is Rs 3,200-3,500
  • One-way ticket is now priced between Rs 14,000 and Rs 19,000

A large number of NRIs, who alighted at the Delhi airport in the last two days, had to face a lot of inconvenience in reaching their destinations in Punjab. Owing to this, people are preferring to take direct flights to Amritsar from Delhi, which has led to further hike in air fares. Indigo operates three flights, while Vistara and Air India operate four flights each.

Yogesh Kamra from FlyAmritsar Initiative, an NGO, said that, “We have written to all airlines that with rising fares and unavailability of seats on the Delhi-Amritsar route, airlines can deploy some additional planes or increase frequencies in this sector to ease the situation.”
