Jalandhar, February 13

Claiming that their anti-Badals movement was not affected by the return of ex-MLA Amarpal S Boney Ajnala to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) fold, Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today said the departure of one person made no difference as hundreds more were joining them daily.

Dhindsa, along with the leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) and SAD (1920), held a public meeting in Jalandhar.

On Ajnala, Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura too said that it sounded strange to see him hugging the Badals again.

“He had vowed to topple the Badals and free the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Akal Takht from their clutches,” Brahmpura said.

On former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal indirectly attacking the BJP for hate politics during a rally in Amritsar today, Dhindsa said it was for the first time that the Badals had hit their ally.

“But it is for the BJP or the SAD to answer as to what made them say so.” All leaders, including Dhindsa and Brahmpura, called for freeing the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Akal Takht from the clutches of Badal family. They said they had decided that the trio seniors — SS Dhindsa, Ranjit S Brahmpura and Ravi Inder Singh — would not contest any elections, including that of the SGPC.

At the event, Harjit Kaur Talwandi, daughter of ex-SGPC chief Jagdev S Talwandi, joined them. She too talked of relieving Akal Takht and the SGPC from the Badals’ dominance. She talked about rampant misuse of SGPC funds by them.

At the end of the event, SAD (Taksali) leaders Bir Devinder and Sewa S Sekhwan expressed their dissent over not being called to deliver speeches. Bir Devinder termed it an insult to them despite being called from far away.
