The Akal Takht and the SGPC have expressed condolences on the demise of Surat Singh (91), a civil rights activist known for his unwavering commitment to the release of captive Sikh political prisoners.
Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh said Surat Singh was an example of Panthic spirit and his demise marked the end of a remarkable life of sacrifice and struggle. “May the Almighty give strength to the family to bear the loss,” he said.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the Sikh community had lost a steadfast leader. “His life and struggle was embodiment of a relentless pursuit of justice, leaving an indelible mark to uphold human rights,” he added.
