GNA University in Phagwara launched the prestigious All India Inter University Football Tournament (Women) with a grand opening ceremony, marking the beginning of a 6-day event from January 11 to 16, 2025.

The tournament features 16 teams from across the nation’s four zones, competing for the coveted trophy.

The inaugural match saw GNDU, Amritsar, Punjab, face off against LN Mithila University, Darbhanga, Bihar. The opening ceremony was graced by Sr. Gurdeep Singh Seehra, Chancellor of GNA University, and Ms. Jasleen Seehra, Chancellor Ma’am, along with various dignitaries including Dr. Hemant Sharma, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Monika Hanspal, Dean Academics, among others.

The event commenced with a vibrant cultural ceremony at the university’s football field, where students performed traditional folk dances such as Luddi and Bhangra to welcome the participating teams.

Teams from universities like GNDU, Adamas University, University of Calicut, and Goa University, alongside twelve other institutions, will compete in this prestigious womentournament.

In her address, Ms. Jasleen Seehra wished the players success and encouraged them to aim for international success, commending the School of Physical Education and Sports for promoting grassroots football.

Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Seehra reiterated the university’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and advancing football facilities in the region.

Dr. Hemant Sharma, Vice Chancellor, emphasised the event’s goal of nurturing a competitive spirit and promoting sports in the region, while GNA University continues to strengthen its foundation in football development through various initiatives.
