Amarjit Kaunke honoured with ‘Srijan Sahitya Samman’

Amarjit Kaunke, a reputed Punjabi and Hindi poet, critic, editor and versatile translator from Patiala, who has been treading on the path of words since 1985, has said a true author neither supports any fanaticism, nor stands in favour of any cause. The writer is only a humanist and he talks about the rights of the common man.
Addressing the 119th episode of Srijan Seva Sansthan’s ‘Meet the Writer’ at the Maharaja Agrasen Vidya Mandir, Sriganganagar, today, he said an author always wrote in favour of the oppressed and the exploited and exposes the truth of his times.
He enthralled the audience by reciting his Hindi and Punjabi poems. On the occasion, his Punjabi poetry book translated into Rajasthani by Rashtriya Sahitya Academy award recipient writer Dr Mangat Badal was released and some poems were also recited.
Badal said today’s poets had forgotten poetry. “There is nothing wrong in composing free verse poetry, but it must have rhythm. Otherwise, there will be no difference between poetry and prose.
Later, Kaunke was honoured with the ‘Srijan Sahitya Samman’.
