Amid internal feud, Punjab Congress in charge Harish Rawat meets Sunil Jakhar
New Delhi, September 23
Congress general Secretary in charge of Punjab Harish Rawat on Wednesday called on former state unit president Sunil Jakhar to seek his cooperation for Punjab amid intense factional wars between former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Jakhar, who was one of the chief ministerial frontrunners, had recently taken on Rawat for “undermining CM Charanjit Singh Channi by saying that the state elections will be fought under the leadership of Navjot Sidhu”.
Rawat’s visit was also seen in the light of Jakhar’s unease over the former’s public statement that had “undermined” Channi.
Rawat is learnt to have urged Jakhar to continue providing guidance to party workers. The visit was seen as the Congress leadership’s attempt to placate senior state leaders. — TNS
