Muktsar, June 20

In less than a fortnight, MLA Gidderbaha Amrinder Singh Raja Warring faced protesting farmers second time at Harike Kalan village today. Notably, the farmers have already announced that in protest against the three farm laws, they won’t allow any politician to enter the village.

When Warring today wanted to visit the village to mourn the demise of a villager, farmers blocked the entrance of the village.

As a result, Warring and others accompanying him, including police personnel, left their vehicles on the road and went on foot ahead. The farmers then raised slogans against the state government and showed black flags to Warring. They also had an argument with some policemen. The protesters reportedly said with the elections approaching, politicians had started making rounds of the village.

Khushwant Singh, block president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur), said, “On the call of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, we won’t allow any politician to enter the village. We had lodged a protest against Warring a few days ago too, but he came again today. If Warring or any other politician tries to enter the village now, we will block all entry points of our village.”

Later, the farmers took out a protest march in the village. They also protested near the house of the resident whom Warring had visited. Warring said, “I am a farmer. I along with my kids joined the Delhi protest also. However, some miscreants are creating nuisance in the name of farmers’ protest. Among the persons who blocked my way today, only 10 were from Harike Kalan village, others were outsiders. The police should take action against them and those who assaulted MLA Arun Narang in Malout.” — TNS
