Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) executive committee member Tarsem Singh, father of jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, has said that while the party aimed to elect its president on April 13 at Talwandi Sabo, it might have to seek more time from the public if the district-level committees were not formed in the remaining six districts.

“The district-level committees have been formed in 17 districts and the process in the remaining six districts is underway. Our team has already visited Talwandi Sabo to finalise the rally venue for Baisakhi. However, if the delegates are not elected by Baisakhi, we may have to seek more time from the public to elect our president,” said Tarsem Singh while speaking over the phone.

Asked what would be the process for the election to the top post, he said, “It is also being finalised.” Amritpal is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), which expires on April 22. “We are hopeful that like seven others, Amritpal’s NSA duration will also not be extend,” said Tarsem Singh.
