Anomalies in school lecturer posting surface

Anomalies have surfaced in the allotment of posting station to school lecturers, almost a month after the Punjab Education Department changed the criteria.

The government had recently promoted 1,200 teachers. In nearly 100 cases, two to three lecturers have been allotted the same station. Claiming transparency and an efficient mechanism in allotting the stations, the department withdrew the traditional practise of calling subject-wise teachers to the state headquarters and conduct the station choice exercise.

Instead, the promoted teachers were called to officer of the District Education Officers to choose their stations from the state-wide list made available on the spot. The teachers were asked to fill two forms, including a google form.

A senior department functionary said most issues related to the postings had been resolved. “Earlier, stations used to be allotted on the spot as per seniority. The new practice lacks complete transparency in allotting stations and has led to senior anomalies,” said Vikram Dev, president of the Democratic Teachers’ Union.

“The department is being forced to issue revise posting orders and that too after being pointed out by multiple teacher,” said union general secretary Mahendra Kaurwal.

Sukwinder Singh Chahal, president of the Government Teachers’ Union, said the new system ignored the seniority of the teachers.
