Patiala, January 16

SAD leader Bikram Majithia appeared before the Special Investigation Team on Tuesday to explain his position in the drugs case registered against him by the police.

Case registered 2 years ago

  • The case against Bikram Majithia was registered on December 20, 2021, but his arrest was deferred by courts for two months
  • Majithia got bail on August 10, 2022, after spending five months in the Patiala jail

SIT questioned Majithia for around six hours in the conference hall of the Patiala Police Lines, following which Majithia was allowed to leave.

The Patiala Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar-led new SIT, which was formed on January 1, today asked Majithia about financial transactions and his links with those named in the drugs trade.

Majithia, who arrived around 12.30 pm at the SIT-selected venue, was allowed to leave around 6 pm where hundreds of anxious SAD workers waited for him. Majithia alleged that the need to form one SIT after the other showed that the government was hell-bent to implicate him when no SIT till date could file a chargesheet against him.

“It is a matter of record that the erstwhile Congress government registered a false case against me by bringing in a police officer as DGP for 15 days”, Majithia said.

“Following the registration of the false case, the High Court had passed a detailed order asserting that the allegations were not made out while granting him bail in the case,” he said. Asserting that it was clear that the AAP government was not ready to listen to anyone, Majithia said, “Bhagwant Mann is following a single agenda – to implicate me in a drugs case by hook or by crook”.

He said immense pressure was being put on police officers and repeated SITs had been formed to “procure” the desired results.

“Now more and more junior officers were being added to the SITs with one of them being the ears and eyes of the Chief Minister”, he alleged.

“I will keep raising the issues of Punjab and haul up the CM for his wrongdoings. I will soon pass on another objectionable video clip of a minister to the appropriate authorities if the minister unfurls the national flag on Republic Day”, said Majithia.

Bhullar heads the three-member SIT with Patiala SSP Varun Sharma and Dhuri SP Yogesh Sharma as its members. The need to reconstitute SIT arose following the retirement of Patiala ADGP MS Chhina on December 30.

Majithia was booked in December 2021 on the basis of a 2018 report submitted by anti-drugs STF head Harpreet Singh Sidhu.
