In another major haul within a week, the police recovered 13.21 kg of heroin and arrested three drug smugglers in two separate cases in the district, which shares border with Pakistan.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said the police had received a tip-off that two persons, identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gori (19), and Gurpreet Singh, alias Kaali (23), both residents of Rajo ke Gatti village, were involved in drug smuggling and had recently received a huge consignment of heroin from across the border. “A trap was laid and the duo was nabbed by Crime Investigation Agency sleuths,” said the SSP. A case has been registered against them at the Sadar police station. The police recovered 8.49 kg of heroin from them.
In the second case, cops nabbed Jograj Singh, alias Samar (27), a resident of Asaal village, with 4.72 kg of heroin at a naka near Mohkam Khan Wala village. “Besides, an unassembled pistol along with eight rounds were recovered from him,” said the SSP. A case has been registered at the Ghall Khurd police station.
On July 25, one Ramesh Kumar was nabbed near Sodhi Nagar village. Nearly 20 kg heroin was recovered from him.
