Appointment of DGP yet to be finalised: Punjab CM Channi

While Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Navjot Singh Sidhu after resigning  over appointment of director general of police Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and Advocate general APS Deol has once again expressed resentment tweeting in this regard on Sunday , Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has claimed that the name of Punjab DGP was yet to be finalised.

In a tweet today, Sidhu said, “Demand for Justice in sacrilege cases and for arrest of main culprits behind the drug trade brought our Govt in 2017; Due to his failure, People removed the last CM. Now, AG/DG appointments rub salt on wounds of victims, they must be replaced or we will have No face.”

Channi, who was here to distribute loan waiver certificates to farm labourers while talking to mediapersons said after tenure of former DGP Dinkar Gupta was completed, the names of all senior police officials who have completed 30 years in service were sent to the Centre as per rules. The name of DGP would be finalised only after the state government receives a panel of three officials sent by the Centre, he added.

Channi also announced that all those who have completed 58 years of age will have to retire from government job. Who has attained the age of over 58 years would not be allowed to serve anymore so that the youth could be given chance for government jobs, he added.

The Chief Minister also assured that farmers would receive payment against paddy procurement immediately.

Reiterating his government’s firm commitment to ensure clean and transparent administration to the people across the state, he said all the civil and police officers would be made responsive and accountable for prompt redressal of their grievances on the top priority.

While addressing the public gathering at state-level function to hand over the debt relief certificates to the farm labourers and landless farmers besides launching pilot project of drone technology for digital mapping of rural properties within Sri Chamkaur Sahib assembly segment under Mission Lal Lakir, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for early resolution of genuine concerns of the people especially the poor and downtrodden in order to repose their trust in the functioning of the government.

The Punjab government has already decided to waive loans amounting to Rs 520 crore of 2.85 lakh farm labourers and landless farmers with respect to the principal amount against their cooperative loans as on July 31, 2017, and interest on the above amount till March 6, 2019.

The Chief Minister also announced a slew of development projects for the region, including an over bridge at a cost of Rs 114 crore over river Sutlej connecting Bela-Paniali road to National Highway 344-A, two sports stadiums in ITIs of Raipur and Tripari besides upgradation of Civil Hospital at Sri Chamkaur Sahib.

He also announced that Railway under Bridge at Morinda would be soon made operational adding he said the upcoming skill university at Sri Chamkaur Sahib would act as a catalyst to boost employment opportunities in the region by upskilling the local youth.
