Arman’s family demands arrest of remaining murder suspects
Family members of Arman, a 15-year-old boy who was been found dead after going missing for six days, staged a sit-in at Malout Chowk, near the main city police station, today, demanding the arrest of all accused in his murder.
The police had earlier arrested two individuals based on a report filed by Gurjit Singh, Arman’s father. Gurjit Singh claimed that his son had been called from home on March 10 by Narinder Singh Nindi and Akash Khand, both from Udham Singh Nagar, along with some unidentified individuals. When Arman, 15, did not return home by evening, a search was initiated, but no trace of him was found. Gurjit Singh alleged that the two accused and their unknown accomplices were responsible for his son’s death.
In response to the protest, city police station in-charge Maninder Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh Brar visited the site and engaged with the family. The DSP confirmed that the two accused identified in the complaint had been arrested and were under questioning. He assured that if additional suspects were named, they too would be investigated.
Arman, who had been missing for six days, was found dead on Saturday. His body was recovered from a canal near Jandwala Mira Sangla, after National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams had been conducting search operations in the canal. The cause of the death is yet to be determined, with police stating that it will be confirmed only after a post-mortem is conducted.
Some protesters linked Arman’s death to the ongoing drug menace, alleging that he had died from a drug injection before being dumped in the canal. The protesters vowed to proceed with the cremation only when all those involved in the murder are apprehended.
