Members of farm and employee unions organised a march through Lehragaga villages on Sunday seeking the arrest of those behind the April 25 assault on Nirbhey Singh, a teacher and a leader of Kirti Kisan Union from Khai village.
Nirbhey had claimed to the police that he was attacked for supporting some poor families of Khai village in a land dispute case.
The march passed through Ramgarh Sandhuan, Sekhuvas, Ghorenab, Kalbanjara, Jhaloor, Dhindsa, Lehal Kalan, Bakhora Kalan, Jawahar Wala and Lehal Khurd villages.
The protesters also held a demonstration at Lehra and burnt an effigy of Punjab Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal. The protesters alleged the suspects were not being arrested as they enjoyed political patronage.
The Lehra police had registered a case against some persons, including two sarpanches, under various sections of the BNS.
Bhupinder Singh Longowal, state convener of the youth wing of the Kirti Kisan Union, said a demonstration would be organised at Sangrur on May 26 under the leadership of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.
