Baldev, a close aide and collegemate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was nabbed on Sunday with two illegal weapons and cartridges. Bishnoi is in custody of the Punjab Police in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.

A senior police official, requesting anonymity, told The Tribune that the gangster had been in touch with Bishnoi from long time and also used to keep illegal weapons of the gang. “Accused Baldev had also been visiting the Tihar jail to meet Bishnoi. He confessed that in October 2021, he went to meet him in the jail. In the same month, Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi had gone to Dubai and it is being suspected that Anmol had fled abroad on a fake passport and Baldev could have arranged it for him,” said the official.

A senior official said Baldev had picked up Bishnoi’s brother from Delhi and took him to Jaipur where they stayed for a night and the next morning, he dropped him back to the Delhi airport to catch Dubai’s flight. Now, the police are trying to get records from the Immigration Department to know on which identity Bishnoi’s brother fled to Dubai.

“Last year, Baldev also helped one murder convict Karanvir, who killed Bunty Bajwa a few years ago in Ludhiana, in fleeing to the US by reportedly arranging a fake passport for him,” said the official.
