As Punjab Congress leaders PPCC Chief Amarinder Raja Warring and MLA Sukhpal Khaira on Wednesday alleged that to provide Z-plus security of Punjab Police to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the list of police protectee, the AAP government in Punjab has passed off the Delhi CM as party’s Punjab convener, Punjab Police clarified that the security list was wrongly being attributed to the state police.

A spokesman of the police said it was a mischievous attempt to sensationalise the issue and cautioned against attributing a private document to the Punjab Police.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring sought to know as to why Kejriwal, already a Z-plus protectee from the Centre, needed Z-plus security from Punjab. “This has been done fraudulently is evident from the fact that he has been shown as @AAPPunjab convener, while he is actually national convener. Shame on such pettiness!” he said.

Earlier at a press conference, Khaira while making public the purported list of the potectee of Punjab said it was submitted in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in connection with a writ petition filed by former deputy CM OP Soni. He claimed that Punjab government passed off Arvind Kejriwal as AAPs Punjab Convener to extend him the Punjab Police security cover at the cost of the state exchequer. “CM Kejriwal already enjoyed Z-plus security given by the Centre,” said Khaira while further claiming that Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha had also been provided Z-plus security whereas other MPs had normal security.

The police spokesman said the circulating document is in fact a part of Annexure-5 of the Writ Petition No. 11872 of 2022 filed by O.P. Soni in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. “These attached documents are in no way the official documents of Punjab Police. A perusal of the alleged list clearly showed that it is a typed document and there are no signatures, initials, official stamps or official authentication present anywhere in the document. It appears that this list has been typed by the petitioner and attached to the Writ Petition. Any person could obtain copies of the Writ Petition from the website of the Punjab & Haryana High Court to verify the facts. The matter is sub-judice in the High Court and the next date of hearing is July 29, 2022”, said the spokesman.
