The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested ASI Baldev Singh posted at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station in Kapurthala district in a graft case. The arrest was made following a complaint by a Kapurthala resident on the CM’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The accused had demanded Rs 10,000 bribe for allowing the complainant to join the investigation in a police case after getting anticipatory bail from the court. The complainant was, however, able to persuade him to accept Rs 2,000.

600 govt school students to get JEE, NEET coaching

Chandigarh: As many as 600 Class-XII students from government schools in Punjab have been selected for the 7th edition of the residential summer coaching camp to prepare them for the JEE and the NEET for admission to engineering and medical colleges. The 23-day camp being run at SAS Nagar by the state government includes 500 students for JEE and 100 for NEET.

House set afire in Bathinda

Bathinda: Some persons forcibly entered a house at Dan Singhwala village here on Wednesday, vandalised it and set the belongings on fire. The police have registered a case against five identified and four unidentified persons. Four of them have been arrested. Complainant Nirmal Kaur alleged the attackers targeted her family due to a past dispute involving her son.

119 held under anti-drug drive

Chandigarh: The police on Thursday arrested 119 drug smugglers and seized 1.7 kg heroin, 14.6 kg opium and Rs 57,480 cash from their possession under the ongoing war against drugs. With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 17,137 in the past 103 days. Over 200 teams, comprising about 1,300 cops under the supervision of 89 gazetted officers, conducted raids at 465 locations, leading to the registration of 93 FIRs.
