Jalalabad: Punjab Police ASI held for taking bribe

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has nabbed a Punjab police official, identified as ASI Saroop Singh, posted at Jalalabad city police station in Fazilka district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 4,000.
VB officials said the erring ASI has been nabbed on the basis of complaint lodged by Surjit Singh, a resident of Jalalabad. The complainant had alleged that the ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from him in lieu of submitting police charge-sheet in the court regarding a police case registered against him.
The VB official said the deal was finalised at Rs 17,000. “The accused had already taken the amount of Rs 13,000 in three instalments and was further demanding the remaining amount of Rs 4,000.
“The VB, after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, laid a trap and erring ASI was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
