An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and other police personnel were thrashed by an accused and his family when they went to his house to execute an arrest warrant in a case at Gobind Nagar in Rajpura on Friday.

Police officials said the team had gone to issue a warrant to the accused to appear for investigation in a complaint pertaining to a money transaction.

The accused refused to sign the warrant and started abusing when the police team from Kheri Gandiyan police station, led by ASI Balwinder Singh, approached him.

When the policemen were about to leave the house, daughter of the accused locked the doors. The family members of the accused attacked the cops, said the police.

The accused have been identified as Kewal Krishan, his daughter Upashana, wife Chanchla, son Sahil Verma, all living as tenants in Gobind Nagar. The police also booked Gurpal, a resident of Kherpur village of Shambu block of the district. The accused have been booked under Sections 353, 186, 332, 342 and 506 of the IPC.

The SHO, Rajpura City, said all accused had been arrested after the incident and were produced in court on Saturday. — TNS
