At 87%, Fazilka block sees highest turnout

In a big jump in polling in the last two hours, Fazilka block recorded 87.13 per cent, Jalalabad 84.1, Arniwala 83.09, Khuian Sarwar 79.15 and Abohar 78.10 per cent voting as per the data made available today by authorities.

Head Constable Kuldeep last night recovered a country made .32 bore pistol and two magazines from Manpreet Singh of Miami Basti in Fazilka, whereas his pillion rider, identified as Rithik Roshan managed to flee near Chuhriwala Dhanna village. A case was registered under the Arms Act. It surfaced that the duo had planned post-poll violence.

In a separate incident, some miscreants, who were known as supporters of a group that lost panchayat election in Dhani Karnail Singh, lost temper when the supporters of winners were celebrating.

They pelted stones at the vehicles of the supporters of the winning Sarpanch and panches and damaged them. One of the supporters of winners, identified as Sonu (27), was injured and brought to the Abohar Civil Hospital for treatment. The police said action would be taken after the MLR of the injured is received.
