The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) termed the murderous attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal as an intelligence failure and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident.

SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema, also performing ‘sewa’ in the Golden Temple complex, called it a “major security lapse” and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. “Though I appreciate the policeman who took swift action, we have no faith in the government. The conspiracy behind this incident has to come out,” he said.

Cheema claimed that the attacker Narain Singh Chaura was roaming around the Golden Temple for the past two days. “What were the police waiting for? Why was he not arrested then,” he said.

Displaying video evidence, Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia termed it intelligence failure and said the attacker was a sponsored hit man of the ISI.

He said the murderous attack was aimed at finishing the moderate Akali leadership of Punjab and spoiling the peace in the border state by creating a communal divide. “We demand a high court monitored probe into the entire incident to unmask the entire conspiracy behind it.”

He asserted that “aapar bakshish of Guru Ramdas saved Sukhbir and allowed him to complete his ‘sewa’ even while he was being fired upon”.

“The ‘sewa’ as mandated by Akal Takht Sahib will continue unabated. We will not be cowed down by such cowardly attacks,” said Majithia.
