Rajasthan Police have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle Punjab-made liquor to Gujarat, arresting two individuals in the process. The truck, carrying 1060 cartons of two popular brands of English liquor, was intercepted on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Bharatmala Project road.
The truck, loaded with liquor worth approximately Rs 80 lakh, contained bottles of Royal Challenge and McDowell whiskey. The seizure was made after police received a tip-off about suspicious items being transported. Police Inspector Ganesh Kumar Bishnoi identified the arrested individuals as Ladhu Ram Bishnoi, the truck owner from Chitalwana, Jalore, and Dinesh, a conductor from Sedwa Barmer.
According to the police, the truck was parked on the side of the road when it was checked. Upon inspection, the liquor cartons were found hidden in bags. During interrogation, it was revealed that the duo had travelled to Dabwali, where they made contact with liquor smugglers from Punjab.
Police also discovered that the liquor was supposed to be handed off to another driver near the Gujarat border. A case under the Excise Act has been filed against them.
