On August 28, 2021, a man threw a shoe towards Sukhbir as he walked off the stage after a political rally organised by former minister Anil Joshi in Amritsar. The shoe did not hit Sukhbir and fell at a distance from him, but the person was detained by the police. On February 2, 2021, Sukhbir’s SUV was attacked with bricks and stones during a clash between SAD and the Congress workers at the tehsil complex in Jalalabad in Fazilka district. Both sides had allegedly opened firing at each other as well.

On January 11, 2017, a shoe was hurled at the then CM Parkash Singh Badal on Ratta Khera Chhota village in Lambi by Gurbachan Singh, brother of Sikh hardliner Amrik Singh Ajnala. The shoe hit Badal near his eye, causing mild swelling. A senior police officer today said Gurbachan Singh has completed his sentence of three years and is now living in Fazilka district.
