Farmers staged a protest and blocked the main gate of the Union Bank of India’s Jalalabad branch today. They were demanding the release of payment to an elderly widow. Due to the protest, some employees and customers remained trapped inside the bank for several hours.
The bank manager clarified that the payment had been blocked by the bank’s higher authorities. He assured the protesters that the payment would be released as soon as instructions were received. The issue would be resolved in a few days, he said.
The farmers called off their protest temporarily, but warned to restart the dharna if the issue was not resolved by February 24.
