Ropar: Bank official nabbed for taking bribe
Ropar, February 21
Vigilance Bureau (VB) sleuths nabbed an official of the State Bank of India while allegedly taking Rs 20,000 as bribe for issuing an NOC here yesterday. The accused has been identified as assistant manager (field officer) Jashandeep Singh posted at Nurpur Bedi branch of the bank.
According to the VB, complainant Nand Lal, a resident of Bungrri village near Nurpur Bedi defaulted in paying a loan to the bank. The bank sued him, following which on the directions of the court he deposited Rs 7 lakh in the bank. The VB officials claimed that when Nand Lal sought an NOC from the bank in this regard, Jashandeep allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe.
The deal was finalised for Rs 40,000, of which Rs 20,000 were being paid to the bank official when he was caught yesterday. Ropar VB wing DSP Vinod Kumar said that the accused was arrested after registering a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. — TNS
BJP leader’s house gheraoed
Muktsar: Farmers staged a protest outside the residence of BJP leader Rajesh Pathela Gora on the Tibbi Sahib road. The protesters criticised the Centre for running away from the promises made during the year-long Delhi stir. Farm labourers also protested outside the District Administrative Complex.
