Undeterred by the reports of massive barricading on the Punjab-Haryana border, members of farm unions, including BKU (Ekta-Sidhupur), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Doaba Kisan Welfare Committee and Kisan Sangharsh Committee Kot Budha that have a substantial base in Doaba, are all set to head to Delhi.

Harpreet Singh Kotli Gajran of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, said, “Hundreds of members of our union will participate in the protest. We shall start moving to Delhi on Sunday morning. We are not bothered about barricading at Shambhu barrier. Such barricading was done even in 2020, which we breached. We shall do it this time as well.” The committee has good representation in Shahkot and Nakodar belts of Jalandhar.

The farmers are also cautious of the fact that they could be put under house arrest or detained by the police. Harsulinder Singh, chief, Doaba Kisan Welfare Committee, said, “They have been doing this earlier too. But we expect them to wait for any such action till February 12 when our unions will meet leaders from the Centre. We plan to leave for Delhi on the evening of February 12.”

Ranjit Singh Aliwal of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee Kot Budha, said, “Around 50 tractor-trailers would leave for Delhi on Sunday morning.”

Kulwinder Singh Mashiana, head, BKU (Ekta-Sidhupur), said more than 60 tractor-trailers, all packed with supplies, would depart for Delhi from Phillaur, Kartarpur, Jalandhar Cantt and Nakodar on February 11 and 12.
