A teenaged girl allegedly battered her fiancé to death with a baseball bat and subsequently buried his body in the compound of her house barely a week after the two were engaged.

The girl’s mother was the “accomplice in crime”, which is being termed as the “murder most foul” by senior police officials.

The crime is being discussed in every nook and corner of the city.

The age of both the girl and the boy was stated to 17.

“This is a classic case of a cold-blooded murder,” said an investigator.

The police exhumed the body today, after which the post-mortem was conducted.

A murder case has been registered against nine persons at the Civil Lines police station.

Two persons have been arrested, while the others, including the girl, are at large.

SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said, “During questioning, the girl’s mother, Charanjit Kaur, confessed to helping the girl in burying the body.”

Sahil Masih, who used to study with the girl in the same school located on the Batala-Gurdaspur road, left his house on June 1 to meet his fiancée.

The girl’s house is located on the Bhullar road, while the boy lived a stone’s throw away from her house.

Sahil’s mother Baby said initially they did not suspect any untoward thing because “both of them were engaged and moreover my son had told me that he would be back after some days”.

However, when Sahil failed to return, his mother decided to go to the girl’s house and enquire about her son’s whereabouts.

“I was overwhelmed by an unbearable stench when I went to their house. I immediately suspected foul play and informed the police about the matter,” she said.

The cops subsequently questioned Charanjit Kaur. Finally, she came out with the truth, after which it was decided to exhume the body,” said Baby.

The girl and her mother had already dug an 8-foot-deep pit.

“The body was exhumed in the presence of Tehsildar Satnam Singh and senior officials,” said an officer.

The boy’s grandfather, Yunus Masih, said he had given Rs 1.25 lakh to the boy for some personal work. “Sahil, in turn, gave the money to the girl. After some days when he asked her to return the money, she conspired to finish him,” he said.

Yunus Masih said before the engagement, they had told the girl’s family that they hailed from the Christian community.

“I asked them if they had any objections to inter-caste marriage. However, the girl’s family objected not even once and went ahead with the rituals of the engagement," he said.
