Punjab Mandi Board Chairperson Harchand Singh Barsat called upon residents of rural areas of the state to adopt the Punjab Government’s ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hariawal Lehar’ as an element of their daily routine, and plant and adopt maximum number of plants on their special days.

While talking to mediapersons after planting saplings at a local grain market, Barsat regretted that successive governments had failed to comprehend the need of saving existing trees and planting saplings of different varieties of trees to compensate the excessive deterioration of environment in the past decades.

“As you people have more spacious houses and vacant spaces at public places, we call upon you to be a part of the ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hariawal Lehar’ launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann,” said Barsat while highlighting the dire need of planting and saving more plants.

Barsat said more than 33,000 saplings of shade and fruit trees were planted during the first phase. Even during the current season, 50,000 saplings had already been planted. He called upon employees of the market committees, commission agents and farmers to celebrate special days of members of their families by planting saplings.

Meanwhile, Barsat said the process to repair 14 link roads at a cost of Rs 7.30 crore had been initiated. He said approximately 4.13 crore earned from Kissan Bhawan, Chandigarh, would be utilised for providing better services to farmers, labourers and commission agents.

Responding to complaints received regarding the issues in preparation of Ayushman Cards, the chairman advised his staff to get the issues resolved from headquarters at Chandigarh.

MLA Zamil Ur Rehman, District Planning Board Chairman Saqib Ali Raja, Chief Engineer Gurinder Singh Cheema, Sandaur Market Committee chairman Karamjit Singh and District Mandi Officer Jaspal Singh were also present on the occasion.
