Bid to demoralise state police: Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa “tried to demoralise” the state police by claiming that a huge quantity of explosives had been smuggled into the state.

Bajwa had claimed in an interview that he had information that 50 bombs had reached Punjab, of which 18 had exploded while 32 are yet to go off.

Speaking during the inauguration of a School of Eminence at Chhajli village near Sunam, Mann said Bajwa should tell the police where are the remaining 32 hand grenades/bombs were lying.

“Or he is simply trying to spread panic among people. In this case, the law will take its own course,” he added referring to a case lodged against Bajwa for his statement.

Mann said the police had been seizing grenades and bombs almost daily, but the “morale of the police is being demoralised with such statements despite the fact that Punjab is a border state”. “These people also termed the Punjab Police inefficient. If that is the case, why did not they give up their security cover?” the CM asked.
