Two major attempts to smuggle poppy husk from Rajasthan into Sangrur have been foiled in less than a fortnight. An attempt to smuggle 357-kg poppy husk from Rajasthan was foiled when a truck with a Punjab registration number was reportedly intercepted at the Piplia terminal last week in Rajasthan. Driver Tarsem Singh and conductor Bawa Singh, both of Sangrur, were held under the NDPS Act.
The police on November 17 had seized 210-kg poppy husk on a highway in Rajasthan by intercepting a truck that had been booked to transport popcorns from Chittorgarh to Sangrur. Driver Gur Singh of Guru Tegh Bahadur Colony, Sangrur, and conductor Harmandeep Singh of Dalomaal Patti, Sangrur, were held under the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, the police also seized 7,400 sedative tablets and 9-kg poppy husk by searching a truck having Punjab registration. Driver Harpinder Singh and conductor Nardeep Singh of Jaito were held at Abohar under the NDPS Act.
BJP councillor Jaswaran, alias Swarn Singh Kamboj, who was elected from Ward-4 in Khunja, Hanumangarh, was arrested under the NDPS Act after a peddler reportedly revealed that he had arranged drugs with Kamboj’s help.
