Local bird lovers today demanded ban on motorboats in the Nangal lake. The wetland was declared a Ramsar site last week.

Bird lovers, including Sanjeev Gautam, Prabhat Bhatti and Darshan Kumar, who organised a programme to mark World Wetlands Day on the banks of the lake, also apprised schoolchildren of birds and distributed posters about the wetland.

Gautam said the noise pollution due to motorboats was affecting the arrival of migratory birds to the wetland. “If the conditions are not improved, most of the birds will stop arriving at the lake,” he said.
