Chandigarh, July 8

Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Ravneet Singh Bittu and state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar today met Governor Banwarilal Purohit and shared with him their concerns about the law and order situation in the border state.

The Union Government was getting disturbing reports about criminal activities in the state, he said.

Bittu said the present AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann was allowing the situation to go from bad to worse. He said the way criminals were roaming freely, the security of the common citizens was at high risk. He cited the incident of attack on Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar in Ludhiana and firing incidents leading to murders in various other cities. He said the parole granted to jailed gangster Daljit Singh Bhana by the government was testimony of the state machinery backing criminals.

Bittu said the AAP government was not able to control crime, corruption, drugs and illegal mining and these were the main promises of the party for seeking votes from people of Punjab. He said AAP had cheated the people of Punjab with false promises.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar also called on the Governor to convey his concern over the ‘dwindling’ law and order situation across the state.

On the last day of the campaign for the July 10 Jalandhar West bypoll, Jakhar appealed to voters to cast their vote in unison to reject the talibani atmosphere of violence, daylight robberies, ransom calls unleashed on the state by an inefficient state government.
