Bittu joins chorus against Sidhu

Chandigarh, May 14

Days after advising Capt Amarinder Singh to give his Home portfolio to some other minister if he could not deliver justice in the Kotkapura police firing case, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu today came out in support of the Chief Minister by targeting Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.

He said Sidhu’s expiry date for jumping ship was near and that he would change the party soon. Bittu’s attack on Sidhu came hours after the latter targeted the CM by tweeting: “Why after six years we are still awaiting another investigation by SIT. Since cognisable evidence is available — Why not immediately arrest the main accused? The police can easily take action in normal course! Statement from 2018, visiting families of victims with senior party leaders.”

Air grievances at party forum: Kang

Former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang has urged Congress leaders and party colleagues to stay united at this critical juncture. “If there are any differences of opinion, these should be discussed at the party forum appropriately,” he said.

Bittu said he had always opposed Sidhu as he was not a traditional Congress man and was a parachute leader. Bittu, who had challenged Sidhu after he quit as Cabinet minister, said his stand on the SIT investigation into the Kotkapura police firing remained the same and he hoped the CM would fulfil the poll promise.

A few days ago, Bittu was part of the meeting attended by MP Partap Bajwa and ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi as part of the regrouping to pressure the CM to act fast against the perpetrators of sacrilege and subsequent police firing cases.

For the past few days, the CM’s camp has been actively targeting Sidhu through ministers. So far, seven ministers have sought Sidhu’s suspension for indiscipline from the high command.
