BJP opposes Khalid at rally
Sangrur, January 2
District BJP leaders have sought a ban on entry of former JNU student Umar Khalid into Sangrur district. Khalid is scheduled to attend a march against the CAA and NRC at Malerkotla on Friday. A BJP delegation today met Sangrur SP-Investigations and submitted a memorandum.
“Umar Khalid has been facing an FIR for attempts to vitiate peaceful atmosphere…. His inflammatory speech may create a law and order situation and we urge the administration to prevent his entry into Sangrur district,” said Randeep Singh Deol, district BJP chief. Khalid along with human rights activist Ovais Sultan Khan will attend the protest, being organised by the Haa Da Naara Sangharash Morcha. Sangrur SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said they had beefed up security at Malerkotla. — TNS
