Mayor Vimal Thatai and others assembled around Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk and expressed their discontent by placing a scooter in the middle of the road and garlanding it. They shouted slogans against the Chief Minister and AAP for betraying the common people.

Thatai said Punjab Government had increased the prices of petrol three times, adding that if the situation continued, then people would have to leave their vehicles at home and resort to commuting on cycles and bullock carts. He said the AAP-led state government had not fulfilled any promise made to the public prior to the elections so far, due to which there was large-scale discontent among the common folk. He said the people felt the current state government was a failure on every front.

The block party presidents, Deepak Chhapola and Ramesh Gandhi, said the state government, which claimed to provide free electricity to millions, has also increased the electricity tariff, which would further loosen the pockets of residents in the state. Moreover, he said Punjab Government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel by imposing VAT on them. He added this would affect all sections of society as it would lead to an increase in the prices of all essential goods.
