BKU (Ekta Ugrahan): Accept demands or won’t let leaders in villages

Farmers protesting at the district headquarters under the banner of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) for the past 13 days, seeking compensation for the cotton crop damage among other demands, have threatened the state government to “stop testing their patience” or they would ban its leaders from entering villages ahead of the Assembly elections.

Ram Singh Bhaini Bagha, district president, said: “We had protested at the Delhi borders for one year and now we are protesting here against the indifferent approach of the state government. We have been braving biting cold but our patience has started to wear thin. We will wait for a few more days for the government to respond and if it does not relent and fulfil our genuine demands, we will start barring its legislators, ministers and leaders from entering villages ahead of the Assembly elections.”

The farmers have been demanding compensation for the cotton crop damage, debt waiver for farmers with landholding of up to five acres, Rs 5 lakh compensation, complete debt waiver and government job for the next of kin of those who died at the Delhi border, besides suspension of the DSP who allegedly cane-charged protesting teachers during the CM’s recent visit to Mansa.
