BLOs ordered to follow CEO Punjab’s social media handles by September 29
The aim is to amplify official voter education material, ensure consistent messaging at the grassroots level, and boost public awareness about electoral processes through verified channels
The Office of District Election Officers (DEOs) has issued directions to all Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors to follow and engage with the official social media platforms of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, as part of the ongoing SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) outreach programme.
In a formal memo, the DEOs cited an earlier communication from the CEO and requested that all field officers actively follow the CEO-Punjab social media handles, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, listed in the memo. The aim is to amplify official voter education material, ensure consistent messaging at the grassroots level, and boost public awareness about electoral processes through verified channels.
The DEOs have directed BLO Supervisors and BLOs to follow the provided links and confirm compliance. The district office has asked that consolidated proof of following and updating be compiled and submitted to District Election Office by September 29, so that a single, verified compliance report can be forwarded to the CEO, Punjab.
The memo emphasises strict adherence to the CEO’s instructions, implying that this exercise is mandatory for personnel involved in voter education work. Copies of the order were forwarded to District Nodal Officer, District Lead/Field officials, and the ELC cell for necessary action and monitoring.
Officials say the move is part of intensified SVEEP activities to reach voters through digital platforms while ensuring that information circulated at the local level is authentic and coordinated with state election authorities. By directing BLOs, who are primary contact points with voters, to follow official handles, the district aims to broaden its reach and check misinformation.
The DEOs’ circular comes amid an increased push by election authorities nationally to use social media and digital outreach in voter awareness drives.
