Sangrur: The Sunam police have booked two persons for allegedly “duping” two persons of Rs 38 lakh each on the pretext of sending them to the US. Harpreet Singh of Sunam alleged that Charanjit Singh and Harpreet Singh Mann, both residents of Haryana’s Tohana had promised him and two others immigration to the US in lieu of Rs 1.11 crore. They allegedly took Rs 38 lakh each from two of them but did not send them to the US. OC

13 mobile phones seized

Ferozepur: The Central Jail authorities here seized 13 mobile phones and booked 18 inmates in two separate cases. In the first case, 12 jail inmates were booked following the recovery of seven mobile phones. In the second case, six undertrials were booked following the recovery of six mobile phones. On May 21, five jail inmates were booked following the recovery of six mobile phones. OC

Woman killed in accident

Abohar: A woman was killed and three others injured when a speeding car hit them while they were going to pay obeisance at a gurdwara near Chak 71 RB village in Sriganganagar on Wednesday. The police said one of the four women died on the spot while the others were admitted to hospitals for treatment. The deceased was identified as Gagandeep Kaur (22). Those injured were Rajpreet Kaur (22), Sukhbir Kaur (21) and Akashveer Kaur (20). A case has been registered against car driver Kuldeep Singh of Chak 2-FF-A village. OC

Man, mother ‘poisoned’

Muktsar: A suspected case of poisoning at Gurusar village in Gidderbaha has claimed the lives of a man and his mother.The victims were identified as Jaswinder Kaur and her son Shivtar Singh (around 40). The accused, Khushmandeep Kaur, Shivtar’s wife, is under medical care and stated to be stable. The police have registered a case against Khushmandeep Kaur, her brother, her mother and her alleged paramour. TNS

Summer relief for wildlife

Ropar: Harpal Singh Pali, fondly called “Water Man”, has made it his mission to quench the thirst of wild animals and birds during harsh summer months. Pali, a resident of Kanpur Khuhi village in Ropar, has constructed 25 water holes across a five-kilometre stretch of forest. He fills these with water nearly every alternate day during the summer, using his personal tractor-tanker. TNS
